The Silk Factory Lofts of Lansdale invites members to join them at their historic landmark building.
The Silk Factory Lofts has won this years ‘Edwin G. Holl Historic Achievement Award’ for renovating and preserving an historic factory for 21st century use. What started as a Interstate Hosiery Mill, among the world leaders in the production of silk stockings in the early ‘20’s, and subsequently became a fine knitting mill, Santarian’s clothing store and a furniture outlet, before falling into ruins, has now risen to become the Silk Factory Lofts Apartments, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a reminder of that golden era before nylon took over the silk industry. In the heyday of this era, more than 5% of all the silk stockings in the world were produced here in Lansdale.
