The Lansdale Historical Society was founded in 1972, and its purpose is to preserve the history of the Borough of Lansdale and the greater North Penn area, and to share its collection of material and resources with the greater community, particularly the youth. It has its headquarters in a two-building complex, located on Jenkins Avenue in the center of Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA. The buildings are owned by the Borough of Lansdale.

The Lansdale Public Library Opened on August 25, 1928, with 1,000 books available to the public for circulation. It was located in one room of the borough building on Courtland and Montgomery Streets. Members of the Lansdale Women's Club, and others donated their time, books and money to start the library.

The year was 1981. At the time, there were many unmet needs in the community. The government and other local manna agencies were simply not able to respond to needs for food, housing and other emergencies. Under the leadership of Reverend John Touchberry of St. John's United Church of Christ, local churches and caring individuals from the community came together. Out of that gathering, Manna on Main Street was born.
